Switching from Android

Do you have a new phone or tablet and will you continue using Android as your operating system? Then you can easily transfer your data and settings from your old to your new device, using the Google Drive app.

Automatic backup

The Google Drive app creates a back up of your old device. You can do this once now, but Google Drive can also do it automatically. Setting that up ensures that your files won't be lost in case your device would break down unexpectedly. Follow the steps below and easily back up your files.

On your old phone:

  1. Open the Google Drive app and log in with your Google account.
  2. Tap the three bars at the top left and go to 'Settings'.
  3. Tap 'Back up and reset'.
  4. At the top, select 'Back up to Google Drive'.

On your new phone:

  1. Connect your phone to a WiFi network during the set-up.
  2. Log in with the same Google account.
  3. In the list of backups, select the name of your old phone.
  4. Please specify what you want to transfer.

Transferring all your photo's

Transferring Photos's from your old Android phone to your new one is also a piece of cake. To do so, use the Google Photos app, and your Google account. How to do this is explained in the steps below.

Step-by-step explanation:

  1. Open the Google Photos app and log in with your Google account.
  2. Tap the three bars and go to 'Settings'.
  3. Tap 'Backup and Sync' and turn on 'Backup and Sync'.
  4. If necessary, manually select the folders that should be synchronized.
  5. On your new phone, open the Google Photos app using the same Google account. Your photos are now instantly transferred!

Transferring specific files with Google Drive

In the Google Drive app, you can also select specific files to transfer to your new Android device. Follow the steps below and easily transfer specific files.

On your old phone:

  1. Open the Google Drive app and log in with your Google account.
  2. Tap the blue plus at the bottom and tap 'Upload'.
  3. Choose the files you want to transfer.
  4. If you hold down the screen longer, you can select multiple items at once.
  5. If you want to transfer a folder, first navigate to the folder and tap 'Select All' in the upper right corner.

On your new phone:

  1. Open the Google Drive app again and log in with the same Google account.
  2. Select the files you want to transfer, by pressing the screen for a long time.
  3. Press the download button.

Transferring WhatsApp details

If you have a new phone, of course you want to transfer all of your WhatsApp conversations to your new device. Follow the steps below and easily transfer your WhatsApp conversations.

On your old phone:

  1. Open WhatsApp.
  2. Press the three bars at the top right, and tap 'Settings'.
  3. Tap 'Chats' and then tap 'Chats backup'.
  4. Press 'Account' and then, choose the Google account where you want to make your backup.
  5. Tap 'Back up to Google Drive' and choose your preferences.
  6. Indicate your preference for Internet settings.
  7. Press the green button 'Make Backup'.

On your new phone:

  1. Pair the same Google account to your new phone.
  2. Download WhatsApp and complete the configuration.
  3. Complete the configuration with the phone number you wish to use.
  4. You will be asked to restore a backup, tap 'Restore'.
